Congregational Life & Other Activities
Fifth Sunday Community Service Project
Four times a year we run into a calendar event when there are 5 Sundays in the month. This year, 2017, it occurs in January, April, July, October, December. On these 5th Sundays, we will be participating in various community service projects. We meet directly after the service at 10:15 AM. Servant events will be determined closer to each Sunday.
NOTE: October and December fifth Sundays are festivals of the church year, so our community service projects will be observed in a different format.
Bibles and Brews
This young adult Bible study is a time of food, drink, fellowship, and God's Word. We meet on Thursday nights at 8:00 pm at The Terminal Brewhouse downtown. Come study the Bible and have a beer or burger! Or both! Contact Nyssa Hunt at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Wine, Women & The Word
We have started a new book, Pew Sisters. Please consider stopping by. Members vary each week. Find meeting details on the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church Facebook page or contact Sylvia Hildebrandt or Laura Dahlke for more information.
"Cross of Christ Reads!" Book Club
If you like to read, Cross of Christ Reads! Book Club meets once a month for an evening of fellowship and discussion over that month's literary selection. We are not meeting in the month of December, due to the holidays. Any questions, contact Sylvia Hildebrandt at HTexasNatives@gmail.com. Come one, come all!
The Birthday Club
The Ladies Birthday Club meets bimonthly to celebrate the women whose birthdays fall within the chosen two months. November/December's party has passed. Please check back for information on the January/February party.
NOTE: The men of the church meet for lunch simultaneous to the women's party, for food and fellowship.
School Snack Packs
In partnership with a number of area churches, Cross of Christ helps provide healthy snacks for the children of Rivermont Elementary School. Our church is responsible for packing these bags four times a year. Volunteers are needed and greatly appreciated!
STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE
Based on the guidelines of the C.A.R. report, a Strategic Planning Committee has been formed to address the short and long-term plans of our congregation. The committee will focus on our Foundation of Word and Sacrament Ministry, Community Engagement & Outreach, and short and long term facility maintenance.. We have some immediate issues with the facilities, and we also need to consider how the appearance of our facilities might affect the Ministry and Outreach and plan for a way to achieve our goals using the resources that we have available..
Quilting - Tuesday, 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM every week. The quilts looked great - as always.
Other news: The League Letter is available on line midsouthlwml.org click on Publications. In this October edition are articles about and from our own Nyssa Hunt, a very nice article about Emma Hendrick of Tullahoma - she is Ethel Hamilton's sister. And our "Save the Date" for Convention 2018 is also shown.
